etsy fix friday

Friday, September 18th, 2009

A sweet and folky card from Jess at Peeping Tom Paper.

A new purse from recycler extraordinaire Enhabiten.

And how cute (and also useful for a handy reference) are these badges? On The Button.

fabric journal

Friday, January 30th, 2009

In an effort to keep a record of how much my materials are costing me, I’ve started this journal. As simple as it looks - what, where and how much. In the interest of keeping it simple I’ve just kept it to ‘batch’ cost and not individually priced everything because that might be aiming too high. Asha helped me do the sticking in because a four-year-old can smell a craft glue project a mile away.

nautical fairies

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Our first camping trip with two kids was attempted and hailed a success - despite the ute’s air conditioning breaking own, the baby getting sick on the first day, almost getting blown away in gale force winds and a post-camping tummy bug that wasn’t pretty. Uh uh. I combed all the op shops (three) in delightful Port Fairy and came up with a couple of fabric gems. We beached, we picnicked, we Cheeseworld-ed (we needed petrol), we drove back with the windows down and the kids quiet in the back.

And one of my favourite musicians has started a blog and revived my nautical obsession in one go. Sarah Blasko rocks, in an alt folk pop kind of way.

One Ikea bunkbed and a second-hand chest of drawers later and I have a whole cupboard for my fabric stash. (In the one-thing-leads-to-another way living in a small house goes.) The girls’ room had a major rearranging, completed just in time for bedtime (Ben was banging in the last bed slats just as Milla was losing it). Now we also have an extra bed in the house, for sleeping in with the baby. Officially referred to as ‘co-sleeping’, we call it the ‘only (way to) sleeping’.

The apples, trees and strawberry fabric is my latest thrifting find - possibly my most favourite pattern ever. I’m worried that I’ve really worn out my luck this time. I’ll have to make a significant offering to the thrifting gods.

A peek at a batch of hats I have in the making …

And finally I have to be in the running to win this gorgeous blouse. If I won it, I would so take it out for a groovy glass of milk.

Just popped in on my way to kindy … and some days are beauties at my local Vinnies.

three things

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Three things (thanks Hop Skip Jump for the idea) from the last few (bitterly cold) Adelaide weeks.

1. There is a little bit more warmth in the sun today, but I finished my new coat a few weeks ago. From this pattern, fabric from here, inspired by this polka-dot coat pic on this post by all buttoned up.

2. A winter radish.

3. This cool softie fabric from new-to-me Australian designer Saffron Craig. Very cute. But this will challenge my softie making skills to their limit. Just not good at softie making.

a lotta Lotta

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

I’m sure that’s not an original post title. My Lotta winnings came yesterday from the wonderful Leslie. I never win anything, so I am super super happy with this. Gonna make some genuine Lotta patterns from genuine Lotta fabric I think. And also break out my Gocco, as I promised!

reinforcements arrive.

It just so happens that my friend and fellow slave to the publishing machine saved this old Singer for me on its way to the op shop. How brilliant is it? I plugged it in and it worked perfectly. Lovely and smooth and quiet. They just don’t make sewing machines like this anymore. Granted, it only goes forwards and backwards and zigzag but this suits my minimalist approach to my sewing (i.e. no time for mucking about with the fancy stuff).

If I can raise my arms today (hand-stands at yoga always seem like a good idea at the time) I’m going to make something with it.

fabric finds me

redstripyvintge.jpg
It was happy days out there today. Milla had her red suit on and brought me stripy red vintage fabric luck. I couldn’t unfold this in the op shop (with only one hand free), so I just hoped there was enough for a new red skirt, and there is! Oh so happy. And even stripy on the diagonal so I can effortlessly make something that looks like I struggled with a bias cut!

And some cute seersucker. And drill.

And one of these orange bowls.

And a tablecloth. I like the green and the kitchen theme. This might become a wrap skirt.

Sleep, baby, sleep.

PS So much for not struggling with a bias cut. I still ended up with stripes going in all directions. Why is this so hard?!

Hat potential

New fabric from where else but reprodepot. Some of this might become a mummy-size sun hat. Fingers crossed …
